Western Australian Lamb Trial
The Australian Merino Production Trial is seeking Expressions of Interest from Western Australian Merino producers to participate in the upcoming Western Australia Lamb Trial (WALT).
By registering your interest, you'll help us confirm producer demand and ensure the trial is established with sufficient participation to deliver meaningful benchmarking results. This is an opportunity to contribute to one of Australia's leading independent sheep benchmarking projects, gain valuable insights into your flock's genetic and commercial performance, and help shape the future of the Merino industry in Western Australia.
Expressing your interest is simple. Complete the Expression of Interest form by providing your contact details and a few details about your Merino enterprise. Once submitted, a member of the AMPT team will be in touch to discuss the trial, answer any questions you may have, and keep you informed as the Western Australian Lamb Trial progresses. There is no obligation at this stage, registering your interest simply ensures you receive priority updates and gives you the opportunity to be involved as the trial commences.

2027-2029 AMPT
Trial Start Date:
The trial will commence in March 2027 with 2026 drop Merino wether lambs. Each participant will select 30 wethers from a randomly chosen group of 55.
Encouraging New Bloodlines:
We are extending our intake to accommodate up to 60 teams from across Australia, promoting diversity and new bloodlines in the industry.
Thorough Genetic Analysis:
This trial will provide a comprehensive analysis of genetic potential, with data that will enhance our understanding of the genetic merits of ewe flocks.
Group Allocation:
Each team will be divided into two groups of 15 wethers. One group will be placed at the Fletchers' feedlot at Kiargathur Station, Condobolin, while the other group will graze on pasture for two years at either Kiargathur Station, Condobolin, NSW, or Temora Ag & Innovation Centre, Temora, NSW. This structure allows for team linkage across all sites.
Year 1 Analysis:
The analysis from Year 1 of the current trial has already highlighted teams that excelled in both paddock and feedlot conditions. The final analysis will be released next March.
